We've been running across sweet dogs in need of our help left and right lately. Unfortunately, it is down to the wire for these Beagles. I think they need willing fosters or adopters by tomorrow morning or they will be put to sleep. Since time is short, I am copying the email I received from a friend. If you are interested, willing, able, heartbroken, etc, etc. please contact Michael at msamstag@mac.com ASAP. The good news is that quite a few of them are accounted for, so I think there are just 3 more that need saving.
Fosters or permanent homes needed for these sweet Beagles!!
We have eight Beagles who are socialized, very loving and sweet. They have been extremely well cared for they have just never been outside of a lab environment. They have never been used for any kind of experimentation beyond routine blood work. In other words, these are going to be some very sweet, appreciative dogs!! We're about two people away from making sure that none of them are put to sleep.
They will be available through the Lab and All Breed Rescue Network. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Time is CRITICAL as we have to tell them how many we can take by Friday morning.
Again, contact Michael if you can help or need more info. Apparently these are just the sweetest guys on earth. msamstag@mac.com

Thanks Em--you guys rock!
I love dogs (and most other animals actually) but I don't read Wigsphere to be guilt-tripped into adopting more pets. All these posts about needy pups are thoughtful and I can understand that it's hard to pass up the opportunity to use this broad and popular forum to help these little guys, but please, this is supposed to be a blog about Knoxville, not a dog-rescue forum.
I understand there is an Urban Outfitters on its way. What about that? And the city is considering curbside recycling. Interesting. How about the new cafe in Old City (Night Own, I believe). Or Coco Moon. Any good?
See, there's plenty else to talk about...
Two things:
We did have a post about the Urban Outfitters. http://www.wigsphere.com/2010/02/rumor-inuendo-and-hope.html
it was short but mostly to get a discussion going through the comment section.
Secondly:
Anon, I do understand what you're saying, but just know we also function to raise awareness about things.
The issue with animal over-population in Knoxville (and everywhere else) is a HUGE problem. I hope that through these posts, at least Knoxvillians will know how important spaying and neutering pets are.
Also it is NEVER EVER ok to abandon a pet. People should be incarcerated for this.
Because so many people are not good stewards of this earth, others are prompted to step up and help.
That's what we want to do.
B, Em, Wigshoppers,
I love this blog, and it breaks my heart to hear about these sweet guys in desperate straits.
Perhaps you should consider a semi-regular feature chronicling the efforts of folks around town who work everyday to make strides in the spay/neuter or overall pet & animal welfare arena. There are many.
That way, you could be helping raise wider awareness rather than just addressing these acute cases. I get your point, B, but in any of the animal posts here I haven't seen a reference or a discussion prompt about the larger issue at hand, only the immediate needs of the animals in question.
Honestly, though it's very sad, sometimes these animals realize more dignity and comfort in being euthanized by skilled and knowledgeable hands than they would being crammed into foster homes that are already bursting with refugees. Sometimes folks are tempted to take on pets out of pity or compassion when they don't have time, resources, or the consistent foundation to adequately care for the animals.
I know you guys are well intentioned, but there are several professional animal adoption centers around the K-town area who do this sort of thing, and very well. They have a system in place to ensure that potential adoptive families have what the animals need before they make placements.
Why not have a Pet of the Week, chosen from one of the local shelters and highlighted on this blog? That would provide a fun and guilt-free forum to raise awareness about the joys of pet adoption and the larger animal issues in our fair city.
As always, keep up the good work.

Exactly. And I think this is a good profile of this lady, but could the larger context of animal welfare or the issues behind her effort be explored?
Please understand I'm not trying to be critical. As I said, I think your efforts are extremely well-intentioned and they clearly come from a good place. I just think that your scope could be widened to make an even greater, and perhaps more responsible, impact. I bothered to comment because my heart goes out to these animals too, and I want to see them have the best lives possible. I know from personal experience how well-intentioned adopters are not always good owners, and I'd hate to see any of you guys have to deal with the same types of situations...
Much respect, as always.
When considering magnetic resistance, Cartier doesn’t use silicon parts, but they do claim to use non-magnetic metal alloys for the escapement and some other movement parts as well as a magnetic shield over the movement. This is part of a new trend in the watch industry to deploy anti-magnetic technology to more and more movements as part of a “relevancy” strategy. Though it is hard not to assume brands such as Omega (with METAS certification) played a big role in pushing this trend. The 1847 MC movement operates at 4Hz and has about two days of power reserve.replica audemars piguet replica bell & ross replica breitling replica cartier
