I took this shot a few weeks ago exploring the lesser known bowels of downtown. I think this may be one of the coolest spaces in Knoxville. It's where I'd realize an old idea if I could: open a bar called Suttree's that would be the coolest dive bar in town, with Cormac McCarthy memorabilia all over. With beer specials served in fish bowls. Trippin' Through The Dew would probably know where this is. Do you?
[note: Anyone is welcome to this bar idea. Make it happen and I will be your most faithful patron.]

I know that place well ... it's always been one of my favorite alleys.
That's Fire Street, isn't it?
Something about fire codes might throw a...wait for it...wet blanket on the bar idea.
But I would definitely pony up some venture capital on an indoor go-cart track in there. Might be just me on that.
I very much want to perform a spiderman-like action scene in that alley. Can somebody help me make that happen?
what's stopping you, ck?
mainly a pesky detail called money. who wants to invest?
ck, i meant to send this to you a while ago when a friend of mine sent it to me, and your "old idea" reminded me of it: http://web.utk.edu/~wmorgan/Suttree/suttree.htm
I think I walked by there a few weeks ago...I'm horrible for remembering names of streets though!
Fire street between the emporium and Firestreet lofts.
Jessica Rodocker the "charming alley" sometime around 2001.
I love this alley! I look / walk past it everyday! (since I work next door) thanks again for pointing out great knox spotz
That is an awesome alley.. And yes, open a bar there and I will be a faithful visitor for many years...
i took the same picture the other day. i would love to see that alley full of businesses. perhaps a jazz bar. neon lights.
Used to be the entrance for the undergrounds late nights were down that alley on the left.
There is also a cool piece of graffiti done by R2 that is best seen from Gay st. Tis a cool alley.
I couldn't agree more and the idea of a bar called Suttree's is simply pure genius. I'd like to see it develop into the same kind of feel that the 'red light' district in Nashville has on its one street like this. I'm not saying I want actual ho's hangin' out, but I did love the feel of it being somewhat not a place a gentleman would go. Therefore "Suttree's" is a perfect name.......Brian
