it's the little things

Has anyone else noticed that the open sign at Back Door Tavern (Toddy's) is always on? This quirky little oversight always makes me smile when I'm pulling in across the street for coffee at 6:45am. There's something reassuring about that sign, knowing it's always on even when BDT is not, in fact, open. It's a Knoxville warm fuzzy for me.

I wonder what sort of Knoxville sillies make other people smile.

It really does seem like Toddy's (it will always be Toddy's to me) is always open.

There are plenty of little things about Knoxville that make me smile ... the big Arby's hat sign in Bearden ... the smell of the JFG coffee roasting around the Old City ... being up in the Sunsphere at night and looking out and realizing how cool Knoxville can look from above.

And when I'm one of the only cars driving along Neyland Drive by the river, I feel like Knoxville and I have a little secret about how beautiful the river front can be.

Sigh. I love you, Knoxville.

i think that if there is somewhere in knoxville you can get a beer at 6:45 am, it's probably toddy's. or maybe marie's o.t.t.

Sorry to be the one, but JFG does not roast coffee in the Old City anymore as far as I know. I believe they've moved that part of their business to somewhere around Sutherland. I do miss that smell.

I've noticed that Toddy's sign.

And one of my favorite things of Knoxville, in relation to The Modern Gal's post, is driving on Hall of Fame Drive towards Summit Hill. That view of Knoxville to your left is breath-taking. Hands down my favorite.

And I love the creamery in the Fountain City. Their grill cheese sandwich is golden [ha].

As far as I know, King Tut's is always open as well.

Oooo, King Tuts. Love it.

And you know ... I'd noticed the Sutherland area was smelling a lot like roasting coffee. I guess I should have put 2 and 2 together on that one.

How about the fact that the bell in Ayers is 8 minutes slow. Too bad it's not an excuse for being 8 minutes late to class.
