This is all according to the MetroPulse:
The French Market, which was opened recently by Allen Tate and located on Gay Street, is being kicked out of the Farragut Building. A California company bought the building recently and just told him he has until early next year to get out.
Apparently the business was doing well. I still haven't been, but definitely intended to.
I haven't heard any news about it recently, but Tate is hoping to fight the eviction because he signed a five-year lease.
Also in regard to Cherries Internet Cafe: "After being open for a few weeks, the cafe closed in November. Affordable Home Builders, a contractor who did renovations on the space, is suing the business for $43,909 in unpaid bills, according to court records." --MP

being one of a dozen people who actually went in cherries (and wrote an optimistic wigshop report about it), i thought that place was weird. the actual cafe space was cool, but their web presence was amateurish and the concept of "super happy flower nice wee! we're making shows on the intraweb!" cherries tv did not seem like a sound basis for a sucessful business.
I hope Tate can successfully fight the eviction. I love French Market. If there's any sort of petition, I will sign!
yeah. big oops on not paying your bills on time.
Noooo! I love the French Market. I hope they're able to stay here in Knoxville. I must always be able to access French macarons.
I had the best dark hot chocolate of my life after we were finished working the parade from that place. I hear they're going to make affordable apartments in the building. If that's the case, more power, but keeping the Market would give it a nice addition for the residents there. How cool would it be to just go downstairs in your pajamas and walk next door for an awesome cappuchino? Crazy...sounds like something I would do.
The French Market is not going anywhere. They have a 15 year lease with their options. Too bad the building owners did not investigate the leases before they told everyone that they were getting kicked out.
that is great news!
i just got a cinnamon crepe at the french market. it is amazingly tasty and a great 2nd breakfast. yes, first breakfast was at 4:30am. anyway. thanks to france and the dude who owns the french market. bon delicious.
Interesting... I hope The French Market stays, it is a great business for downtown Knoxville. Went this weekend and I loved the Cheese Crepe ..perfection.
Really enjoy this blog, thanks for all the info!
