this weekend i got a dose of what knoxville has to offer in terms of the great outdoors. first of all, there was a massive hawk in a tree outside my window:
i also went to Ijams Nature Center, in Island Home on Saturday morning, which was a pleasant surprise. Stan had been talking it up for a while and i was a little bit skeptical, but there were some cool trails, scenic views, and even a cool little museum. i'll definitely go back sometime in the spring when there are some leaves on the trees.

unfortunately for ijams, you don't seem too concerned with following directions. i'll be sure to let the nature center know they had an off-trail hiker on saturday.
you should be ashamed of yourself.
that thing was in sequoia village!? if i had a chihuahua i would fear for its life. that is one huge bird!
i've seen it 3 or 4 times. one time i saw a pair of them.
i went to some place right outside of ktown a few years ago and saw a bald eagle.
Ijams is awesome. Such a great resource so close to downtown.
Yeah, carnivorous birds are cool.
i think knoxville's got it going on when it comes to birds of prey. on several occasions i've seen a hawk on the roof of my building downtown.
once a couple of black birds were chasing the hawk away. i guess they were protecting the nest. if i was that hawk, i'd have me a blackbird sandwich. but that's probably why i'd be a miserable hawk.
dont forget about the pigeons down on depot, stan. you know, the ones you eat.
That hawk was in my backyard in December! He caught a squirrel back there and then spent about 4 hours tearing it apart. I wrote a blog about it :)
